Look what’s going on at Central! 

CLUBS 

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL has been involved in an international campaign to help victims of human rights violations in China, specifically practitioners of the religion Falon Gong. 

ART CLUB hosted its annual art sale featuring handmade hemp necklaces, wire bookmarks, and decoupaged cigar boxes. The club also hand-painted birdhouses sold by the Hinsdale Historical Society to benefit Emmanuel Hall.  

BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS OF AMERICA fielded a team of eight students at the National Leadership Conference. They competed in digital media production, global marketing, integrated office applications, economic research, and java programming. The club’s community service included volunteering at the local soup kitchen and participating in the March of Dimes Walk America.  

CITIZEN CLUB is going strong with more than 50 members who gather weekly to engage in lively dialogue and debate on such topics as the Democratic primaries, the Mars expedition, police brutality, affirmative action, the Iraq war and its aftermath, college scholarship aid. The club is committed to American values and perpetuating democracy. They conducted a voter registration drive so that eligible Central students could vote in the March and November elections. Plus they established a partnership with South Shore High School in Chicago so that both schools could learn from one another.  

FRENCH CLUB sang, danced and played musical instruments for the residents of Washington Square retirement home in Hinsdale. The kids organized an International Dinner for all the language clubs, held a French movie/pizza party, and visited the Art Institute of Chicago.  

FUTURE HEALTH PROFESSIONALS OF AMERICA raised several hundred dollars in the PartnershipWalk. The sponsored guest lectures on pharmacology and medical education, and held a lab where they learned to suture, on oranges not people! 

GAUSSIANS Math Team has competed well in the North Suburban Math League of 55 schools, the West Suburban Conference of 6 schools, and in the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics Region and State Competitions.  

GERMAN CLUB is proud to announce that a member will spend the summer in Germany as part of the AATG study abroad program. Proceeds of their Advent calendar sale will benefit a local non- profit organization. And as part of the Ethnic Fair, they set up a ROOTbier Garten and sold homemade pretzels and candies.  

GIRLS RESERVE put on the first ever Pack the Party at the end of Pack the Place spirit week, a most successful venture. Community service involved visiting pediatric wards at Halloween and Christmas, taking St. Pat’s cards to a retirement home and lots of other thoughtful activities.  

INCLUSION STUDENTS ACTIVITIES TEAM encourages social interchange between inclusion and general education students. This year they met for regular school lunches, bowling, a Halloween party, Sunday brunches, the spring play, a cookie exchange, a pizza party and movies.  

JETS competed in the Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering Academic Challenge, where they qualified through Regional and Sectional rounds and will compete at the State Competition. They took 2nd in Regional and 6th in State at the Testing of Engineering Aptitude, Math, and Science competitions.  

KEY CLUB, truly a service club, donated $1,000 to Spastics Paralysis, made dolls for Hinsdale Hospital children, volunteered at Hinsdale Historical Society events, participated in the 24-hour relay fundraiser with Hinsdale South, helped Kiwanis collect for Peanut Day, ran the games at Oakbrook Park Halloween Party, tutored at South Shore school, hosted a game/talent show at Washington Square retirement home, cooked and served at the PADS homeless shelter, and so much more….. 

MOCK TRIAL TEAM competed well in the regional tournament and finished in the Top Eight at the State competition. The team won state awards for Outstanding Attorney and Outstanding Witness.  

MODEL UNITED NATIONS garnered a huge number of outstanding delegate awards at the University of Chicago competition and did the same at the University of Illinois contest.  

PEER LEADERSHIP conducted a clothing drive to benefit Hinsdale Community Service; and worked at PADS homeless shelter, Ronald McDonald House, Wellness House; and supported a family in need at holiday time.  

SPANISH CLUB raised funds to supoort two acres of rain forest in Chile and enjoyed an ethnic meal together before bowling. They also plan to be the taco component of the language arts international dinner.
